Erik O'Dell
UPPER SCHOOL LATIN
Erik O'Dell is a California native and moved to Texas in 2019. Before he moved to Texas, he graduated from Westminster Seminary in California with an MA in Theological Studies. For his undergraduate studies, he attended Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia where he majored in Philosophy & Religion. In the 7 years between college and seminary, Erik worked in various customer service roles and also did some formal training in comedy improvisation at The Second City in Hollywood, at the time pursuing a career in television writing (he really wanted to write for Saturday Night Live or the legal drama series, Suits). The Lord had other plans and led him to pursue his other, greater love: theology, church history, and apologetics. There, he also learned Greek, Hebrew, and Latin so he could learn to translate the Bible from the original languages. All of that was to prepare him to serve the Lord in the classroom and he has absolutely fallen in love with the classical model of Christian education and he feels most at home training the next generation to pursue the Lord and love him with all of their hearts, souls, and minds and help them to know what they believe and why they believe it.
When he is not pursuing academic, nerdy stuff, he enjoys watching baseball, well-written TV shows, and shooting pool. As of the writing of this little bio, he's preparing to marry his sweetheart that he met 16 years ago "on the mountain" at Covenant College. He will be a married man as of October 5th and he's thrilled to see what the Lord will do with him and his bride-to-be, Jessica, in the ministry of marriage. Erik and Jessica worship at Christ Presbyterian Church in Houston where he also teaches adult Sunday school.
